A monitoring team including the Food Technology and Quality Control Division Office, Damauli – Tanahun, and the Area Police Office, Thantipokhari, has completed a joint monitoring and inspection at Thantipokhari Market in Ward No. 5, Palungtar Municipality, Gorkha.
During the monitoring and inspection, Palungtar Municipality has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to the sale and distribution of bakery shortening weighing less than 10 kg, which was banned last October and also by the federal government. They have confiscated and destroyed half-kilogram bakery shortening worth an estimated MRP of 33,880. In addition, expired grains, meat being cooked with dyes, and rotten fruits have been confiscated.
The monitoring and inspection were attended by the ward chairmen, chief administrative officers, administrative officers, and employees of Palungtar Municipality Ward No. 3 and Ward No. 5. During the market monitoring and inspection, unfair business practices were observed, such as forcing consumers to buy at inflated prices, with the selling price of half a kilogram of a product, which had an MRP of 140, being marked up to 450, resulting in a doubled or tripled profit.
